Art Week
| The majestic environment surrounding Hummingbird
captured the imaginations of numerous artists familiar with the
Higgins family’s operation of the Music Camp, and as a result Art
Week was born years ago. The setting allows the artist’s mind and
creativity to flow as freely in this environment as the Jemez River
flows, winding its way through the valley below. Today, Art Camp
enrollment fills quickly. Art classes and projects are enjoyed in
open classrooms and outdoors as weather permits.
Campers proudly display each of their completed projects on
Saturday, during the Art Show, and get to take their projects home
after the Art Show. |

Chess Week
| Passionate chess players have discovered Chess Week
that Elliott Higgins started 24 years ago at Hummingbird Music Camp,
and many return year after year along with new campers excited about
expanding their abilities in the game and learning from some of the
best. Campers receive chess analysis and lectures by a Chess Master
and a team of chess instructors. Classes are arranged by school
chess club ratings and onsite evaluations, so each child has the
comfort of playing others close to his or her own level. Lectures
are organized into two intermediate and one advanced class. Campers
must have chess experience and know the basic rules of check and
checkmate. Campers play in chess tournaments within their own class,
and trophies are awarded in a variety of categories. |
